Martica Heaner, PhD, MA, MEd is a veteran health writer and author, and an adjunct associate professor of nutrition at Hunter College in New York City. She has a BA in English and exercise physiology from Smith College. Her graduate degrees from Columbia University include an MA in applied exercise physiology, an MEd in nutrition education and a PhD in behavioral nutrition and physical activity. She is the author of 8 books and has written hundreds of articles on health, fitness and nutrition for a variety of publications including the New York Times and other newspapers, and magazines including Glamour, Self, Shape, Fitness, Men's Health, GQ and others. She has published academic research in nutrition, obesity and exercise in peer-reviewed medical journals as well.
