Especially when you’re focusing on nutrition discipline, Greek yogurt is one of those reliable foods that deliver a multitude of body benefits: high protein content, probiotics, calcium, vitamin D and more. Note that for grocery shoppers in three states, their yogurt containers may have come with contents that aren’t so appetizing.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall on 15,834 cases of Wellsley Farm Vanilla Non-Fat Greek Yogurt. It’s not clear from the announcement how many units composed each case.

Manufactured by central New York-based HP Hood LLC (which also makes such brands as Lactaid, New England Creamery, and a wide variety of products under the Hood brand name), it’s reported this variety of Greek yogurt “may contain foreign objects (plastic).” It’s not reported how the plastic might have appeared inside containers, but the FDA’s report specifies the products were shipped to Connecticut, Kentucky, and Maryland.

Identifying details for the recalled Greek yogurt are the following:

  • WELLSLEY FARM VANILLA NON-FAT GREEK YOGURT
  • 40-ounce (oz) containers
  • UPC code 888670048078
  • Expiration dates: 12/4/2024, 12/11/2024, 12/18/2024, 12/25/2024, 1/1/2025, 1/8/2025, 1/15/2025

On January 13, 2025, the FDA designated this a class II recall, indicating “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.” The original recall was issued on December 11, 2024.

This follows HP Hood’s September 2024 recall on Lactaid for containing trace amounts of tree nut.

If you purchased the Greek yogurt included in the recall, consider contacting HP Hood customer service or your place of purchase.
